On the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of 9/11/2001, an event in which our community gathered together to support the emergency response in the aftermath of the World Trade Center attack, GISMO announces an opportunity to contribute to the 9/11 Geospatial Archive, a growing collection of geospatial related artifacts, personal stories and ephemera.

If you would like to contribute any items, files, data, stories or other materials related to the 9/11 response, we invite you to submit items and inquiries via the following Google form:

We are especially interested in photos and personal stories to compile into an oral history publication and welcome you to submit audio/video files along with your contact information.

About the Archive

The 9/11 Geospatial Archive is a project initiated by GISMO President Alan Leidner and board member Noreen Whysel. It currently contains 650 items including electronic files (map documents, shape files, photographs, maps, presentations, etc), DVDs, VHS tapes, handwritten notes, personal recollections and other artifacts created during the response period immediately following the attack as well as more recently.

Most of the collection consists of files and photos from the NYC Emergency Management Data Center that was deployed at Pier 92. It also contains references to geospatial materials at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, Museum of the City of New York, the National Archives, Hunter College CARSI Laboratory, and other institutions and agencies.
